Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy is used to separate chemical mixtures (the GC component), and to accurately identify compounds using very sensitive detectors (the MS component).

The Saturn 2200 GC/MS comprises of the CP-3800 GC , the 2000 Series Ion Trap MS and both a TCD detector and a FID detector. These components create a platform for the world’s most versatile GC and flexible MS. Under Saturn Workstation control, complex configurations become very simple to operate.

Features and Benefits:

•  CP-3800 GC: The CP-3800 GC is Varian's top of line Gas Chromatograph with a flexible platform for single, dual, or three-channel configuration. It features: a spacious column oven that accommodates three or more columns; fast heat-up (100°C/min) and rapid cool-down column oven (400°C to 50°C in 4.5 min) allow for faster cycle times and increased productivity.

•  2000 Series Ion Trap MS: The Saturn 2200 ion trap MS features: time range from 10 to 65 u; Selected Ion Storage (SIS) storing up to five ranges of ion; and scan rate fixed at 5600 u/sec to maximize spectral acquisition

•  TCD detector: The Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) is most commonly used for the detection of inorganic gases . The dual channel TCD automatically shuts off filament current to prevent detector damage in the event of an air leak or loss of carrier gas. Individual control of detector and filament temperature allows optimization of detector performance and decreases maintenance costs.

•  Flame Ionization Detector (FID): This detector is used for detection of organic compounds . The patented inert tip of the FID significantly reduces peak tailing and partial loss of polar or higher boiling analytes.
